About

Hi, I’m Riku, and I live in Japan.

Japan Travel Companion is a travel guide for first-time and returning visitors who want to see the best of Japan. I started this site because Japan is a country with so much to offer, but planning a trip can feel overwhelming, especially if you don’t speak the language. My goal is to make that easier by sharing clear, practical, and honest information.

What you will find here

  • Guides to Japan’s most beautiful places, from famous shrines and temples to mountains, valleys, and seas
  • Practical details such as how to get there, how much it costs, and the best time to visit
  • Personal stories from places I have actually visited

Why you can trust this site

I write about places I know. Many of the stories on this site come from my own trips, such as school trips to Kyoto and Nara, snorkeling in Okinawa, and walks around the lakes near Mount Fuji. When I have not visited a place myself, I check official sources and update the information as often as I can. Prices and schedules can change, so please check the official websites before you go.

A note on how this site is funded

This site contains affiliate links. If you book a hotel or buy something through one of these links, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. It helps me keep the site running and keep the guides free. You can read more on the Affiliate Disclosure page.

If you have a question or a suggestion for a place I should write about, I would love to hear from you through the contact information on the Privacy Policy page.

Thank you for visiting, and I hope this site helps you enjoy Japan.

— Riku
